Visual Studies 1 PPD

This lesson is mainly about observation drawing.

I had drawn the human body in Berryman’s book before, but I needed to sketch a rough shape before I could draw a more accurate figure, and I rarely drew without making a draft in advance, which made the outcome of this course full of uncertainty.

We start by drawing our hands. The shapes I drew were wildly inaccurate, just like a few twisted sausages. Later, when I used my left hand to draw, the shapes became even more strange. Moreover, the lines had no power at all. It’s so different from what I draw with my right hand that you can see it at a glance.

After that, we also drew each other’s “below the knee”. I think this part is easier for me than painting a hand because it doesn’t have so many joints.

In the end, we drew the shoes made by ourselves, which I think is the best part of my drawing, because when I did the research, I had already drawn a lot of illustrations of the artwork I investigated on A3 paper, which means I had done a lot of practice for drawing my shoes, and the final result was quite good.

I think I am not very skilled in observational drawing, especially the shape. I need to practice more in my spare time and draw more things around me, which will definitely help me a lot.
